What is a calm corner?

A calm corner is a safe area of the classroom that helps learners to self-regulate their emotions and feelings. It’s filled with helpful tools to support children to relax and practice mindfulness during a stressful situation.

Don’t let the name put you off – it doesn’t have to be a corner, just an area that is suitable for learners to go when they feel anxious or upset. If you choose not to use a corner, you can get creative with naming your calm area. Suggestions include ‘Zen Den’ or ‘Relaxation Station’.
