Scratch Online is a great platform for developing programming skills with children aged 7 to 9. It uses a visual, block-based language that is powerful but easy to learn. Using Scratch, children can write code to create games, stories and animations.
If you're looking for a resource to help your LKS2 children get started with Scratch or a resource to help them become more independent users, then this Learn to Code Practice Booklet may be just what you are looking for!
The booklet breaks coding tasks down into simple, easy to follow steps, building from something as simple as starting a new project to more complex tasks such as using loops.
Children of all abilities can follow the visual, simple examples and explanations and then practice their skills in the Practice Challenge. For those children who need more, there is a suggested extension task provided in the Taking It Further section.
Children could work through the booklet page by page or you might want to signpost them to a particular page that supports the lesson you are working on. Either way, the Practice Booklet will help your children to develop confidence and independence in their coding.
