Phase 5 (or Level 5) phonics introduces children to further sounds so that they can expand on the reading and writing skills they have been taught previously. This phase of phonics teaching will introduce children to alternative spellings. One example of this is the phoneme 'a' and how it can be represented by the graphemes 'ai', 'ay' or 'a-e'.
All of the phonics phases (or levels) are important as they all build children's knowledge and this allows children to further develop their abilities to correctly read and spell words.

Natalie.C5250@Twinkl 7 years agoHi I'd like to second Kimberlee's suggestion - this would be great to have for the other sound families also. I did this activity successfully with a child with autism last week and he loved it - I've found it works well for him when we are as consistent as possible so being able to do the same sorts of activities when we cover the other sound families would be ideal.
Hi leicesterkate,
Thanks for sharing your suggestion :) I'll let the resource creation team know that you would also find other sound families very useful. Please let me know if I can help with anything else at all in the meantime :)
