Why is it important to learn about habitats?

As students explore and investigate different habitats - from rockpools to tundra and grasslands - they begin to understand the importance of both living and nonliving things in a habitat. Children will deepen their understanding about different places in the world, as well as how animals and plants have certain characteristics that means they thrive where they live. 

This kind of learning provides the foundations for learning about evolution, inheritance and variation in Science as they progress through school.
