How can all practitioners be guided in supporting learning?

This pack will help you! It’s a really useful resource that will enable practitioners to develop child-initiated learning during play in the Maths Area.

You’ll find a one-page prompt sheet for you to complete which has sections for:

• provocation questions to provoke thinking and invite children to explore and develop ideas

• your focus children

• equipment which could be provided initially or added

• opportunities for developing vocabulary

• evaluation including suggestions for improvements and future activities

This handy sheet can be displayed in the maths area so it’s always available for all practitioners to look at. It will be ideal for volunteers and students who work in your setting too.

If you’re looking for suggestions for the prompt sheet and for further ideas, you’ll also find two wonderful Maths Area Next Steps Posters one for Ages 3-4 and one for Reception. Both will support practitioners in extending children’s learning in the maths area. They are excellent resources for guiding new staff and students as well.
