How do I use these transition day resources?

With so many amazing teaching materials to choose from, it might be difficult to think of a good place to start when planning your transition days. A great way to kick off your end of year teaching is to incorporate some fun transition games into your lesson plans. For example, we have a huge range of quiz resources which are perfect for getting children to compete against each other in teams or individually. From guessing the picture to animal quizzes, we have all kinds of transition games on a variety of different topics. As well as quizzes, we also have other types of fun transition games that your young learners are sure to enjoy including a lovely would you rather PowerPoint and a range of jam-packed activity booklets.

The end of the school year is also a great time to encourage creativity among your pupils. Within this collection of resources, we have included a variety of exciting worksheets, colouring sheets and design tasks for children to enjoy. Pupils could spend some time relaxing with some wonderful mindfulness colouring or by designing their own dream jar. Alternatively, children may wish to reflect on some of the best moments from throughout the school year by filling in this lovely memories worksheet. You could also get your pupils to design their own smoothie recipe which could then be made together as a class before breaking up for the summer holidays.

Additionally, we have also included a variety of handy certificate and reward resources which you can use to celebrate some of your pupil's achievements from throughout the school year. For example, these lovely end of year certificates features a range of different awards including 'super scientist' and 'maths magician' to help you tailor specific awards to particular areas of learning where individual pupils have thrived throughout the year.

Ideas and resources for planning end of year art activities for KS1

The end of the school year is a great time for art activities that get children to reflect on their experiences and how they’ve grown in the last year.

  • Develop reflective practices with our Being Me Magic Mirror Activity Sheet! Children produce their own self-portraits using the medium of your choice. You could also use this end of year art activity to bookend the school year. Use it at the start of the autumn term as a welcome activity, where children can introduce themselves using their favourite colours. At the end of the year, KS1 children can produce a new self-portrait which incorporates symbols of how they’ve grown and the things they most enjoyed learning about in the last year.
  • Children can make lovely mementos to give to friends and teachers who they won’t see until next year with our Goodbye Card Colouring Pack
  • Make yummy farewell gifts for friends and teachers with our DIY Gifts Brownie Mix in a Jar Recipe. It’s a great way to teach children about re-using materials. Collect large empty jars, scraps of ribbon and decorative cords and scraps of fabric to cover the jar lids.
  • Children can try their hands at making jewellery and threading beads with our KS1 Design a Friendship Bracelet Worksheet. With this end of year art and design activity, children can plan the design, method and cost of their own friendship bracelets. Collect materials for making the friendship bracelets and price them up. Then, set your pupils a budget and ask them to design a lovely bracelet within this limit. Afterwards they can make their designs and have something bright and colourful to give as a gift to a special friend.
  • Move into the medium of photography with our End of School Year Memories sheet. Children can add drawings, collage or their own photographs to represent each box on the sheet. They include their favourite book of the year, favourite moments, the best thing they learned in the year and more.
  • Say ‘Thank You’ at the end of the year with our Jackson Pollock Colouring Cards set. They feature a design inspired by the work of the famous artist and messages to ‘Friend’ and ‘Teacher’. It would be a great end of year art activity for KS1 to extend their knowledge of this artist, or link to some messy outdoor summer painting activities!
