A wide selection of Xhosa books for children

Take a look at our selection of Xhosa books for children, which have been created especially for you by our in-house team here at Twinkl. These books are really simple to download, and they have all been carefully translated into Xhosa for you to enjoy with your class. They are suitable for Foundation Phase children, and they cover a wide range of subjects that children will find exciting and engaging. With brightly coloured and fun illustrations and simple to digest text, these books are sure to be a hit with your Xhosa class!

How can I use these Xhosa books?

These books are simple to use either at home or in the classroom. Once downloaded, the book will open in an e-reader, which allows you to share the book with your children through your computer or a projector. There is also the option to download these books as a PDF, giving you the opportunity to print them out if you wish. These books are great for a group story time with your class. They are an ideal way to practise Foundation Phase comprehension. You can ask your learners what they think will happen next, and once they become familiar with the book, you could ask them to read along too. We've provided big book versions of some of the titles too. These are ideal for the group class reading sessions, as they make the books easier to see and read at a distance. Our standard books are more suited to smaller group or one-to-one reading sessions.

How can these books help my child to learn?

Reading is fantastic for helping children with word recognition, pronunciation and comprehension. These are all skills which children will build and be assessed on as they progress through school. You can help your child by reading with them regularly to reinforce these skills. Lots of these books also have stories which offer a positive moral message for children. We Are All Different is a book all about embracing our differences and being tolerant of all cultures, interests and races. Jake's First Day is a book all about overcoming anxiety on your first day back at school - something that every child can relate to. Ronald the Rhino is a charming book about acceptance and loving yourself for who you are - everyone has a unique personality and skill set.

These books are ideal to use with learners who have Xhosa as their home language, or young learners who are picking up Xhosa as a second or even third language. As well as our fantastic selection of books, we also have a range of accompanying resources that you can use alongside them, to theme a lesson around each story. There are maths and English resources that have been translated into Xhosa too, which are ideal for home language lessons or just to follow up with the story. Fun activities such as calculation colouring will help learners to work on their fine motor skills, while also working on their basic maths ability. We also have I-spy worksheets featuring characters from the books, which are great for having a discussion around the book while they are being completed.

These wonderful translated books allow your Xhosa learners to enter the magical world of Twinkl Originals, which offer unique, fun and engaging stories that Foundation Phase learners will adore. They can be used in the classroom or even at home for bedtime reading - simply download and print each one, or share it with your children through the PC. If there's a Twinkl Original that we haven't translated that you'd like to see, please get in touch - we'll be happy to help.
